What’s so special about Family Guy?

I want to begin by saying “Family Guy” is more than just a humorous TV show for me. It really resonated with me several years ago for multiple reasons. I’d say that because the show is unique in the sense that very few, if not any other show or series, utilizes the “cutaway gags” that Family Guy does, and that Family Guy pushes the boundaries of what is and was “acceptable” for a series to do, given that the humor, references, and characters alike were designed in such a way to tease or satirize anyone and everyone, Family Guy caught my attention and I quickly fell in love with it. Sure, maybe in a different universe, I could have obsessed myself with The Simpsons, or loved the color blue instead of red, but I wanted to be different and special in my own way, just like the charm Family Guy brings. I decided in the years to come to build my presence online around the show, so I started creating short Family Guy compilations consisting of a couple or a few minutes of fart jokes that I put together with Bandicam to upload to YouTube. This was during COVID, so as might be expected, I gained significant traction and views on the videos, but I wanted to improve because I saw further potential, meaning I thought my first videos were unprofessional. Later on, I’d show interest in other forms of self-expression and creation, so I started this site, fginferno.net, initially in December 2021 but published it in April 2022. I love the simplicity and straightforwardness of my current website builder, or to sum up, I had to try a couple of different website builders before settling on the one this site uses in early 2024.

I would also like to give more insight into the show itself. While Family Guy’s humor is subjective and the show has its critics, its impact on animation, pop culture, and how sitcoms or similar shows are conceived is undeniable, thanks to a distinct and fearless comedic style no other long-running series has ever conjured. This is a major reason why Family Guy stands out among the crowd and has continued production for so long. Another point to mention is that, unlike some sitcoms that stay grounded in reality, Family Guy often embraces the absurd. Even people who’ve watched just a few episodes or have some knowledge about Family Guy probably know about the giant chicken that Peter fights time to time. And it’s more than humor or influence; many fans like me can relate to certain characters or admire the specific relational bonds the show has, such as Brian and Stewie’s.
